Director
VIDA ŽAGAR was born on October 3, 1999, in Zagreb. She completed her primary education in Varaždinske Toplice and her secondary education at the Electromechanical School Varaždin, specializing in media technology. During high school, she discovered the world of film and television, directing two short fiction films, and in her final year, she took on the role of editor-in-chief of the First School Television.
After finishing high school, she moved to Zagreb and enrolled in the undergraduate professional study program of Film, Television, and Multimedia Design at what was then VERN’ University of Applied Sciences. Throughout her studies, she participated in numerous projects, which allowed her to explore different roles on a film set and gain experience in all phases of production. Although her initial passion was cinematography, she soon found her calling in the role of producer and continued to develop in that direction. She completed her studies by filming the medium-length fiction film *Small Truths* (2021), which she co-directed with colleague Anton Weisz.
She then enrolled in the graduate professional study program in Film and Television Directing and Production at VERN’ University. During her graduate studies, she developed a deeper interest in documentary film and dedicated her thesis to directing a feature-length documentary titled *The Best Film Professor in the World* (2025), which won the second audience award at the Cinehill Film Festival. With this film, she completed her education and earned the title of Master of Film and Television Directing and Production.
Outside her academic commitments, she has been involved in the creation of various fiction and documentary films, promotional videos, and music videos. Notably, she worked as producer and cinematographer on the independent feature film *Trust* (2021), directed by Matija Benić, which was screened in a special program at the Pula Film Festival.
She plans to pursue a career in film and television production, occasionally dedicating herself to directing documentaries, where she sees an opportunity for personal and artistic expression.
