The Blend: Film & Games 2024 conference was held before packed auditorium

Zagreb, October 5, 2024 – Yesterday, the first conference to connect film and gaming, Blender: Film & Games, was held at Algebra University in Zagreb. Numerous local and international experts and representatives from both industries shared their positive and negative experiences, innovations, and the challenges they face. The inaugural Blender: Film & Games conference opened with discussions on many current topics through panels and presentations from a wide range of experts in the audiovisual and gaming industries. The conference began with opening remarks from the organizers and hosts at Algebra University, the Ministry of Culture and Media, and the director of the Croatian Audiovisual Centre. "After five editions of the PROFilm Days conference, we entered our sixth year together with the gaming industry. This has proven to be a logical progression and a very successful and necessary connection between the two sectors, with more than 80 speakers," said Mia Pećina Drašković, head of the Zagreb Film Office, which also organized the conference. Benjamin Noah Maričak, head of the Games Croatia office—founded this year at HAVC and also an organizer alongside the film office—emphasized that this conference is an important cog in the development of the audiovisual industry and the first of its kind to be held in Croatia. Christopher P. Marcich, director of HAVC, went a step further, stating that this was a world premiere for such a conference. He noted that while Spain is launching a similar event in a few days, Croatia was still the first. Krešimir Partl, State Secretary of the Ministry of Culture and Media, congratulated the organizers on the successful connection between the film and gaming industries. He highlighted that since 2021, HAVC has been co-financing the development and production of video games and expressed particular satisfaction with the Games Croatia project.
