Basia Karpinski (Poland)

Virtual Production Specialist

Basia Karpiński is a multidisciplinary firebrand with an unhealthy addiction to learning. As a Virtual Production Specialist at Warner Bros. Discovery's TVN XR Studio, Basia facilitates the planning, pre-production, and production of every project that passes through the studio, seeing to it that each project goes from vision to reality as smoothly as possible.

Bouncing back and forth between education and tech and underpinned by a Masters in Educational Technology, Basia has been hands-on with live studio and event production, motion capture, 3D scanning, volumetric video, and LED video wall production at both a small-studio and corporate scale. She spent five years teaching global studies and research methodology in Japan before jumping back into entertainment tech at Electronic Arts' The Capture Lab—acting as the ligaments between the mocap, 3D scanning, production, and post-production departments. After leaving EA, Basia joined Departure Lounge to operate and lead research & development projects on a Microsoft Mixed-Reality Capture System volumetric video stage. This research culminated in expanding the possibilities of captured materials, optimizing asset processing for speed and quality, and collaboration with industry partners to improve integration of volumetric assets into game engines. Through her work with Evercoast and Intel at the Paris Olympic Games 2024, Basia helped improve a different approach to volumetric video, one that champions speed and portability.

Since joining TVN XR Studio, Basia has been leading R&D projects in furthering the innovation of LED-volume virtual production for live and pre-recorded video content, leveraging the various technologies of her past experiences. Outside of professional pursuits, she is an avid concert and sports photographer, and de-stresses by breathing fire.
